On May 7, 2026, just after 9:30 P.M., Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to the gas station at 101 North Blake for a reported shooting. On arrival they found one male lying near the front door of the business and another male in the parking lot. Both males had suffered apparent gunshot wounds. The male located near the front door was later pronounced dead at the scene. The other male was transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center (JRMC). He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Two more males who had reportedly been shot were located a few blocks away. Both of these males were transported to JRMC. One of the other two males is expected to be released from the hospital and the other is in surgery as of the time of this release.

According to witnesses and evidence at the scene, a group of males, including the three who were transported to JRMC, approached the deceased male in front of the store. The group and the male found in front of the store exchanged gunfire. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of two males and two receiving gunshot wounds. Noone else was reported to be injured.

The identities of the deceased males will be released after they have been positively identified and the next of kin have been notified. The two living males have been identified as 36-year-old DeShawn Sanders and 23-year-old VonKavious Briggs. Sanders and Briggs will be arrested for two counts each of Capital Murder once released from the hospital.

This homicide is in the early stages of investigation and the circumstances leading up to this deadly shooting are still under investigation.
